AstroExegesis is about the Jewish approach to astrology: God’s influence is paramount, not that of the stars and planets (note, that the Jewish view acknowledges that mazal ‘astrological influence’ is real. This approach, it turns out, is more nuanced and profound. A study of the astrological content of rabbinical literature from the Torah itself, the Talmudic sages, the cosmological writings of the early kabbalists, and onto the medieval Torah commentators and today’s books and online presentations on Jewish astrology, reveals an eclectic approach that offers the contemporary layperson an approach to astrology that does not challenge religious or moral values and, on the contrary, reinforces the belief in an cosmos created by the One Deity for the benefit of Its creatures.

The question of why and when a person is born begins with the conviction that human life unfolds under the control of the One Deity. Birth may therefore be understood as occurring at an appointed moment, one that belongs within the providential order of creation. In this view, entry into the world is not merely biological but also spiritual, marking a specific moment in which a human life is called into embodied existence.

From this standpoint, the day of birth signifies the beginning of the individual existence within the order of creation at the moment at which the person can enter world history under particular symbolic conditions permitted by divine providence. The qualities associated with that day are thus interpreted as the, so to speak, ‘spiritual ecology‘ into which the person is sent. AstroExegesis’s mission is to explore this spiritual ecology.
